Why is wearing pyjamas to the shops now acceptable!?

I have once witnessed a naked man wearing his bathrobe buying a doughnut at Donkin Donut in Manhattan. Believe it or not ! Well, I know in some neighborhoods in the suburbs of New York, people are more of "laid back", driving their kids to school in PJ's but I don't agree that this phenomenon necessarily gives a "bad example" to their kids, as long as people stay in the car while dropping off the kids.
