Which metal should I use?

I want to make a metal "canvas". I need a light weight, inexpensive, and nearly indestructible metal to make as a painting surface that can be easily hung on drywall. I was thinking aluminum would be good, but it's fairly brittle. Titanium would be great, only it's too expensive. If anyone has any ideas, please forward along.
